I am a 33 year old male.  I have had reflux for 10 years.  Several time a year I suffer from constipation & diarreah (diarrhea) alternating, severe bloating/gas, cramps on both sides about 3 inches below my belly button, mucous in stool, stomach spasms (very very noisy), loss of appetite, pain between my rib cage and hip on the right side, and at times I feel like I am going to black out.  I had a barium swallow/barium enema approximately four and a half years ago with no signs of disease.  I had an ultra sound of my gallbladder which showed gallbladder sludge.  A gastro doctor told me I may have a motility problem.  Last week I was so sick that I visited the emergency room.  An Xray of my stomach showed my colon was inflammed.  He said I should get a barium enema just in case there is some disease causing the swelling.  I had a physical 4 months ago, which showed a small trace of blood in my stool that he said was probably from a hemmoroid.  I do have bright red blood on the tissue from time to time when I wipe, but I have never noticed it actually in my stool.  Do I really need another barium enema?  Do I possibly have IBS?

You sound like me in a nut shell. I am going to a neurologist now because my swallowing test showed I have a spot in my esophogus that is not moving right, so the gastro wants me to see a neuro. I don't know what to think. I feel for you as I have been there for many years too. I am 39 and have had it for several years also. I am worried about ms and lots of other neuro stuff because no one can seem to give me answers. Have you ever been sent to a neuro for evaluation on the motility? I guess I am not much help, i also have ibs and many of your symptoms. I have actually fainted twice when I had the reflux real bad, felt like air in my chest and throat and much pressure. I went to the er and it was not my heart so they gave me a coctail for reflux and it helped, I just wanted to tell you you are not alone, please hang in there until you get anwsers as hard as that seems, I know as I get so frustrated, but i guess it takes time. I can't even get into a neuro till the end of Aug now and my Dr's are both out of town for two weeks. Have they ever told you you may have ibs? Best of luck to you, i am taking one day at a time, hope you can too, Laurie
