I am a 33 year old male.  I have had reflux for 10 years.  Several time a year I suffer from constipation & diarreah (diarrhea) alternating, severe bloating/gas, cramps on both sides about 3 inches below my belly button, mucous in stool, stomach spasms (very very noisy), loss of appetite, pain between my rib cage and hip on the right side, and at times I feel like I am going to black out.  I had a barium swallow/barium enema approximately four and a half years ago with no signs of disease.  I had an ultra sound of my gallbladder which showed gallbladder sludge.  A gastro doctor told me I may have a motility problem.  Last week I was so sick that I visited the emergency room.  An Xray of my stomach showed my colon was inflammed.  He said I should get a barium enema just in case there is some disease causing the swelling.  I had a physical 4 months ago, which showed a small trace of blood in my stool that he said was probably from a hemmoroid.  I do have bright red blood on the tissue from time to time when I wipe, but I have never noticed it actually in my stool.  Do I really need another barium enema?  Do I possibly have IBS?

I know how you all feel.  I have abdominal pain, sweating and diarreha.  I have been through all the tests and noone seems to know what the problem is.  I am at the end of my stick with this.  I am on a antispamatic drug called Librax it has a tranquillzer in it but it does not tranquilize anything.  I can't leave home if I do I have to stop many times before I get to where I am going unless I sedate myself before I leave home.  It is getting to the point I am willing to do whatever it takes to correct this problem. There has to be someone out there somewhere that knows what is going on with us.  IBS is not a good enough explanation for me.  This is not something you can just live with.  And it is definitly not normal by any means!  Thanks for listening if you have any comments or answers for me please email me.  Thanks Michelle

I have been throught the same thing for years and told it is IBS. On my own I discovered it was always worse after eating startchy things, breads ect,
I asked my doctor about it and he did a blood test for Celica Disease. It came back borderline. whatever that means. anyway I decided to try a gluten free diet and see if it helped. At first it seemed worse but I persisted and in about a month I was at least 90% better. I still have problems but not anywhere near what they were before. I too am on Librax but the Librax alone  did'nt do it. I don't know if it will help you or not but it can't hurt you.  I urge anyone who has such problems to at least try it. I have heard that anyone with any kind of digestive problems should stay away from gluten. what have you got to loose.
