Hi I was wondering if my symptoms would sound familiar to you. I am having sharp pains above my abdominal area. It is right under my sturnum.  It feels sharp and tight and makes my right arm  feel tense and cramped.  
I am a young woman of 20. I am not overweight. I have low to normal blood pressure.
The pain does come when I apply pressure to the area but slowly.  It occurs almost at a timed interval it seems like.
If you have any ideas let me know.
This pain also hurts in my right chest area as well.

Dear Kate,
It is difficult to provide a list of specific diseases that could cause your pain without obtaining more information.  Esophageal reflux causes a burning pain in the pit of the stomach and the lower chest.  This pain is often worse when lying down.  Eating chocolates, peppermints, drinking coffeee or alcohol can cause the symptoms. Sometimes there is associated pain with swallowing voice hoarseness, asthma or nocturnal coughing associated with aspiration of food.  A disorder of esophageal contractions can also cause sharp chest pain. Inflammation between the ribs and the sternumcan cause pain like you describe.  If you exercise it is possible that your pains are related to muscle strain.
