Following antibiotic treatment for H. Pylori I have noticed an incredible amount of rumbling in my stomach.  I am no longer taking any of the other medication (Zantac or Carafate), which I quit on my own.  Quite frankly I feel better and pain hasn't reoccurred since going off of them, which has been a week.  However, I have noticed when I lie down or right after I eat I can hear this embarrassing rumbling and gurgling in my stomach.  It doesn't hurt, but it just goes on and on and sometimes it's so loud it wakes me up at night and I lay there and can hear this awful noise.  You would think I'd have a lot of gas, but I don't.  I thought gurgling occurred only when you were hungry, but not in my case.  I'm just more curious than anything why I have to put up with this "music".  I'm also scheduled for an abdominal CT scan and a repeat EGD to make sure the ulcers are healing, otherwise I have no complaints.  Thanks for your information.

Dear Dee,
The noises that you hear ( formal name is borborygmi) are normal.  They result from active motor contractions of gastrointestinal muscle.  If you are symptom free, except for the noise, do not initiate any interventions or therapy.
