Recent H.Pylori Infection

I was experiencing major bloating, belching and a knawing dull ache near my lower right rib cage for weeks and was told I had the H. Pylori infection after having blood work and a physical exam. I was on triple treatment of (2) antibiotics and Prilosec for two weeks. About half way through the treatment I began feeling much better but only for a few days when I began experiencing very intense bloating, loss of appetite and the return of the belching. Now that I have just finished the triple treatment as of 8/13/09 the knawing dull ache has returned (off and on) but not as intense along w/ the constant bloating. I also have back aches on my right side and some of my ribs/surface muscles in the area on my right side/ front toward back are very sensitive to the slightest touch. I have informed my treating physician of my status and was just advised to stay on the Prilosec for another full month. Is this O.K. to do? Should this be the most appropriate approach for treatment/diagnosis?

Both of my parents have had a history of stomach issues(acid reflux) which have been treated successfully w/ Carafate which I already mentioned to my treating physician. I am just concerned that I am being propery diagnosed and treated.

Thanks for your input!

Prilosec is generally a safe medication, and current studies do not suggest long term side effects.

Carafate is a medication that can be used in conjunction with Prilosec if the symptoms continue.

At this point, I would consider an upper endoscopy, which can conclusively evaluate the upper digestive tract.  Obtaining stool or breath H Pylori tests to confirm eradication after the antibiotic therapy can be considered as well.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
