Rectal Tube safety

Is there any research on the safety and care of rectal tubes? I work in ICU and we currently employ 3 methods to manage fecal incontinence for patients on lactulose therapy: 1) fecal incontinence pouches; 2) 30 Fr rectal foley with balloons inflated with 60cc water; 3)  Rectal tubes (normally used for barium enemas) with balloons inflated with up to 100cc water. I have also used mushroom catheters at another institution and I have read about the use of a nasal trumpet inserted rectally and connected to drainage bag. Our current practice is to remove the rectal foley or tube every 8 hours for cleaning and reinserting the tube after pericare is rendered.
