Dear Debra, The omental lining has nothing to do with B12 absorption.  B12 is absorbed in the distal (most distant part from the mouth) small intestine.  When B12 malabsoption is detected, the physician must evaluate the patient for distal ileal disease (Crohn's Disease or surgical resection), pernicious anemia, bacterial overgrowth of the small bowel and pancreatic insufficiency.
