Return of H.Pylori

Return of H.Pylori

About 3 months ago I was treated for H.Pylori by my family doc with amoxicillin, tetracycline, and nexium. I finished all the medication and felt better. Now I fill worst than before and was retested for H-Pylori and was positive. I had a upper GI and showed no ulcer but did have gastritis. I have been given the PYLERA Pac.Tetracycline, metronidazole, and bismuth subcitrate along with aciphex. I have lost weight because of the nausea and have not started the meds for the side effects. Do you think the h-pylori should be treated again and since I already had the tetracycline the first time shouldn't I have been given something else? donna

There are cases where H Pylori is resistant to the common treatment regimens.  I agree with the suggested antibiotic therapy, and if it doesn't work, you can try a combination of amoxicillin and Biaxin.  Another combination is amoxicillin and Levaquin, or amoxicillin and Rifabutin.

These options can be discussed with your GI physician.
