Reversal of Ileostomy

Reversal of Ileostomy

Hello,

My husband had an ileostomy on May 3rd of this year.  He has made a very good recovery although he has not gained back the 25 pounds that he lost.  He has done well adjusting to having an ostomy bag and has a good mental attitude.

here is my question:

He is scheduled to have the ileostomy reversed this coming Wednesday, July 17th.  I am wondering how the recovery from this surgery will be and if anyone might have some experience with this.  I guess I am just a nervous wife and am looking for experiences from people who have been through this.

My husband had colon cancer back in 1994 and has had multiple polyps in his colon since then (thankfully none of them turned cancerous, but because of this his doctor's felt it best that he have most of his colon removed to prevent a recurrence of the cancer.

They decided to give him the temporary ostomy to allow his insides to heal.  They still has his rectum and they have made a pouch which will serve as a holding area after he has the reversal.

I hope I have given enough info.  anyone with any experience please let me know.  I also feel for anyone who has been through this surgery it is quite an ordeal.

Thanks
MissDaisy

Miss Daisy,  I can't help with experiences on ileostomy reversal (mine's permanent).  but there is a site specifically for J-pouchers.  it's www.jpouch.org  I'm sure you can find a lot of info there.  best wishes to you and your husband
