Scared! Plese help!

I am a 39-year old male. I have had minor stomach problems in the past but nothing debilitating. Last Monday I came down with abdominal bloating and diarrhea. Later that evening I developed a pressure sensation in my right upper abdomen. Since that time I have had diarrhea, gas, some bloating and a vague discomfort in my right upper abdomen (sometimes under the bottom rib).

I went to the doctor and he gave me diphen/something for the diarrhea and a once a day yellow tablet for ulcer-type pain.

They said that my blood test came back "normal" but I don't know what that means.

I still have some discomfort in the upper right abdomen. If I fast or stay off solid foods the discomfort subsides as does the diarrhea. It doesn't seem to bother me too much when I sleep.

I did go swimming in public pool last weekend. (The weekend before the onset). Other that that I ate pork ribs on the day prior to the onset. Those are the only periferal factors that I can think of.

I am scared of stomach cancer. I don't know why this diarrhea is continuing. The doctor said that my stool was negative for blood.
My appetite is good except for the fear of the diarrhea. I can hear my stomach churning sometimes.

Please help!

Kenneth

Hi Ken, first let me ask you if your doctor is a general practitioner/internal medicine?  Is he your primary care physician or regular doctor?  If he is, then your next step is to ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist or a G.I. specialist.  You need to see someone that specializes in the stomach/bowel/gallbladder area.  If you have an HMO type insurance you'll need a referral from you primary care dr.  Otherwise, if you have a traditional type of insurance you may be able to do a self referral, depending on the G.I. doctor's protocol.  Here in Michigan it depends on the doc.  But, you obviously have a problem that needs specialized attention and your regular doc can't handle that.  Let me know if you have any questions.  You can email me at: ***@****  Best of luck and good health to you.

Before you start becoming concerned with stomach cancer, be aware that there are a lot of illnesses  that can cause similiar symptoms.  Irritable bowel syndrome, crohns, giardia, food poisoning, etc.

Reason why I point out food poisoning and giardia is because of the quick onset of your troubles.  (I have had them too and know they can really mess up your system).

I would definately consult with your doctor.  But please try not to worry about stomach cancer.  And be reassured that your tests came back "normal."  Usually something is off on those if you have cancer.

Hi,

If I were you I would get my gallblader (gallbladder) checked out.

Good Luck!
