Stomach Cancer has spread to Liver

My Father-Inlaw, 60yrs old, lives in India and was diagonised with Stomach Cancer in Feb 2001.  He underwent surgery for partial removal of stomach and has had subsequent chemotherapy.  But this Jan(2002) he was diagonised that the cancer has now spread to the liver too.  The doctors there gave him a 6months life span.  Is this a definite time or can we do anything to help him.
How fast does it spread once it has hit the liver?

Of course nothing is definite, but 6 months is usual once cancer has metastasized to the liver. I don't know anything about India, if he's near a large university or teaching hospital...he might want to enter into an experimental treatment program. Many doctors don't know about these and so don't suggest them. Also many patients believe that they could recieve a placebo but that's not the case in cancer research. If the patient doesn't recieve the experimental drug, they recieve the most effective treatment for their form of cancer. Worth looking in to.

Terry you mentioned about the Experimental Treatment Program.
Would you by any chance know how expensive this can be as he doesnt have insurance and I am not sure if insurance will even pay for this.  Thanks for any more information you can provide.

My Mom died of stomach cancer.  From the time she was diagnosed (cancer had spread to the liver) until her death it was 4 months.  Be strong - this is a tough time for your family to go through.
