Sudden onset Gerd after surgury

I have had off and on heartburn for 10-15 years but never really was a problem. I had ear canaloplasty surgery about 3 weeks ago and woke up with a horrible taste. I assumed it was blood draining into my throat from the surgery. But after 2 weeks it never went away. I finally realized it was acid. I had never tasted that taste before. It is bad it is coming out my nostrils and I have been choking on it. Im do not want to be on open ended medication. I found apples help but I'm eating 3 a day now and its still bad. I tried otc tums ect..No help at all. I have an appointment for ear followup and I will mention it in two weeks.. My question is this a medical emergency or a common complication from surgery. Can I be doing harm by waiting 2 weeks. And will the surgeon that did the surgery readily admit. and take steps to maybe surgically repair it. Or will he typically try to just write a script and try to get me down the meds road afraid of lawsuits ect. ..Should I see a different doctor ? .. I'm not looking for lawsuits I just want fixed.

Canaloplasty of the ear does not commonly lead to gastroesophageal reflux GERD which is the term for acid reflux.  A horrible taste is not usually a medical emergency, and can wait 2 weeks, as long as you can swallow and breathe comfortably.  The medications used during surgery can alter taste, but 3 weeks is a long time for that to be continuing.  It's worth asking what medications were used during the procedure.

If it is instead acid reflux, there are many over the counter medications that can help such as H2 blockers (tagamet, zantac, pepcid) or stronger ones like proton pump inhibitors (prevacid).
