Surgery scheduled for removal of gall bladder, worried about life after

I have been reading about the removal of gall bladders and it seems alot of people are having relatively serious problems afterwards.  Most of what they are describing with the pain and the loose bowels are the systoms I have now, before the removal.  Is diarrhea not a typical systom of gall stones?  Do I have another problem aside from the stones?  Alot of people indicate they are losing weight and appetite prior to the removal, I am overweight, cant lose weight and thought that it was because the gall bladder wasnt functioning properly.  HELP!!!

I didn't do well after my surgery but know alot of people who did.  My Dad and Father in Law done wonderful after theirs.  Had some Aunts have theirs out and they did good too.  The gasterlogist that I went to, said about 30 percent of patients that have their gallbladders taken out come thru his door with problems.  I can't tell you that you will fall in the 70 percent range that does great but I can tell you if it needs to come out, it has to come out.  Mine needed to come out badly.  Good Luck and stay positive about it all, that will help alot:)  God Bless.

Thank you so much for the encouragement, you basically told me the same things my husband has been saying but I guess it does good to hear from someone who has been through it.  Did you lose weight after having it removed?  I have been struggling with my weight for a few years now and was under the impression it was because of the gall bladder...I am optimistic that this will help me take off those unwanted pounds :o)

Your welcome:)  Yes I lost weight, I would lose weight everytime I had an attack.  But after the surgery I lost right at 50 pounds, suffered thru everyone one of them.  Was overweight, needed to lose, but rather had done it another way.  Now I have my teenage weight back, never thought I would weigh this again, but what happen to my teenage figure?  lol  Honestly though, you will be fine, just stay positive and remember that you will have to watch you fat intake after the surgery.  It takes most a few weeks for their bodies to adjust to not having a gallbladder.  Most doctors don't tell their patients that it is best to lower fat intake, that in itself will help you lose weight slowly and the right way.  Long before I had surgery I would ask my doctor how can I lose weight, he reply was, watch you fat intake.  Now I have to watch it all the time.  But like I said most patients do well after the surgery:)  I am doing fine now, maintaining my weight, finally found  a pill that is helping me, had to go thru alot to find out to cut dairy products from my diet too.  Good Luck, let us know how you do after surgery, if you have any questions will be glad to answer them for you if I can:)

Looking forward to some answers.
I am trying to manage with just drinking liquids, and slim line drinks, do you think this will harm me ???????

Don't know by this time if you have had your gall bladder removed or not.  I was just curious if you did, how did things go?  I had my gall bladder removed in April 2001 and have problems ever since.  I too was hoping that having my gall bladder removed would help me to lose weight, but unfortunately it has not.  Please feel free to email me with your progress or post something on this website.  I'm interested in how you are doing.  My email address is:  ***@****.  I hope and pray that your problems were resolved by having your gall bladder removed.  Take care!

I just had my gall bladder removed a week ago, still coping with the recovery and lack of appetite.  I am actually SCARED to eat anything!  I had diarrhea for a few months before the surgery and now it seems to be the same loose and dark stools.  I don't this I REMEMBER what 'normal' feels like anymore.

I have also been worried because I coughed blood for three days after the lap chol...has anyone else had this problem?  The doctor (not mine, who went on vacation after performing the surgery on me-just the one in charge) shrugged it  off as normal, but I haven't read about others doing this.
