Too many symptoms at once!!

I am going to attempt a readers digest version of my history for my question.
I have a long history of asthma and ABPA (25years) and the complications associated with them.
I have been on medication to control acid for the last five years related to asthma but have been asymptomatic.
In August of this year I had a endoscopy because I began to have severe heartburn symptoms (5 years previous it was clear). My medication was changed to aciphex and I was fine for two months.
I was also put on mirasol becuse my bowel movements were irregular.
Since then I am on Aciphex 3x a day and 300mg of Ranitidine which does nothing.
I am scheduled for a Laproscopic Nissen on Nov. 28th.  
This morning I notice blood in my stool.  I have had some bleeding at other times because my bowel movements were so infrequent when I finally had one I felt as if I was giving birth.
I am 41, do I need to tell my gastro guy or surgeon about this to ruleout colon cancer, or do I attribute this to straining?

Gastroenterologists will often ask whether the blood is on the surface of the stool or mixed with the stool.  Blood on the surface usually indicates an or rectal process whereas blood mixed with the stool can indicate a problem elsewhere in the colon.  I suggest that you tell your doctor about this bleeding.  Most of the time we do not find seriosu pathology but nevertheless your doctor should decide whether further testing is needed.
