Trouble with Stomach Pain

Hi Doctor.  I am having trouble with pain in my upper stomach area.  I am having the pain primarily when I try to lay on either side when I sleep -- I only get relief if I sit up straight, which as you can imagine doesn't promote the best sleep.  I also have some nausea, but I can't tell if this is just because the pain is so bad.  The pain is an achy muscle pain with some cramping throughout the stomach.  I have a history of GERD and use NSAIDs regularly as I have a chronic back problem.  I have an appt w/ a physician but it's far off and so I'd like to get some idea of what this is and how I can relieve the pain in the meantime.
Any thoughts you have would be appreciated!

Regular use of NSAIDs would predispose you to ulcers and inflammation of the upper digestive tract.

I would obtain an upper endoscopy as well as blood tests to exclude H Pylori (a bacteria associated with ulcers and inflammation).

If negative, imaging the abdomen with an ultrasound or CT scan can be considered.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
