Typical Medications for Colon Spasms

What medications are typically recommended for a patient that is
experiencing acute abdominal pain (lower left) that's being caused by colon spasms
but isn't responding to hyoscyamine SR?
Dear John,
Examples of other medicines prescribed for patients with the irritable bowel syndrome who experience abdominal pain and spasm include: Bentyl, Librax or Donnatal. Sometimes the pain of irritable bowel syndrome responds to anti-depressant medication. It is important to use these medications sparingly and only for acute episodes. It is also important to try and prevent exacerbations by avoiding foods that seem to aggravate symptoms (examples include: caffeine, dairy products, fructose and sorbitol containing foods). Stress reduction can also help. Good luck to you. I hope you find this information helpful.
