URQ abdominal pain

URQ abdominal pain

For about the past year I have been having mild pain in the URQ of my abdomen. The pain comes and goes and the best I can tell is that is is generally worse when I have more stress events. Also the pain is worse when I sit upright for long periods - in the car especially and also some times when I lay on my back. When sitting th epain is "scrunched" when laying "stretched". I can think of no other symptoms.

I have been to my doctor and have had a full exam and blood tests all came back good. I recently had a CAT scan and all organs were fine except for some slight swelling in the lymph nodes in my abdomen. The doctor indicated that the increased size was very slight and has mentioned that this could be the result of viral infection. He has asked me to come in for a bit more poking and some additional blood tests. Naturally, being a big google fan I have come accross some scary topics when combining slight enlargement of lymph node with abdominal discomfort. Trying to look on the bright side what other conditions have off and on but on-going abdominal discomfort, combined with slight enlargement of lymph nodes?

thanks

Any type of inflammation or infection can cause enlargement of the lymph nodes.  If the CT scan was normal and did not show any masses, then it would be less likely that cancer is present.

Regarding the RUQ pain, I would suggest an abdominal ultrasound - which can image the gallbladder better than a CT scan.  If that test is negative, you may want to consider a HIDA scan with CCK stimulation - which can evaluate the gallbladder function.  Studies have shown improvement in patients with reduced gallbladder function when they have a cholecystectomy.

Regarding the lymph nodes, you may want to consider periodic CT scans to ensure that they are not increasing in size.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Similar symptoms as you have.
Started about a year ago...upper left quadrant pressure/fullness/discomfort which I described to my doctor as a golf ball lodged between my lower ribcage and the intestines. Things that increase the discomfort: elastic around waist, bending over, going around a curve when driving, sitting (standing is more comfortable), playing tug with my dog, lifting, and eating. A lot of belching follows eating and even drinking water! I am about 50 pounds overweight, work all day and spend hours on the computer. I get very little exercise of the right kind. I have had colonoscopy, endoscopy, ultrasound of liver, pancreas and gallbladder, plus lab work - all normal.
Tomorrow will be second CT scan in 1 year...first was clear. On April 1 I have an appointment with a doctor who practices integrative medicine. He will have all my previous records so I hope to have new information soon. Good luck and please keep your findings posted.
