Weight Gain after two parasite infections in 3rd world Giardia then Amoeba

I spent months in So. America, the first month I got giardia which was confirmed with stool test and took Flagyl.  This caused me to loose 6 pounds of muscle mass weight, then two months later i had Amoebas, with very bad diarria for days and the stool test showed Amoebas.  This time i lost another 8 pounds of muscle.  I took depracote or flagyl and everything was ok.  Execept that I have lost 14 pounds of MUSCLE.  Right now I am healthy with no parasites but muscles are gone.  I have no butt muscles to sit on, the muscles in my back are small now, my arms and legs are sticks.  Before these problems I was a 195lb 40 year old male athlete.  Now I am 181 lb and very upset and worried and I am back practicing sports, but my body has been distroyed by these parasites.  I am trying to eat lots of protein but the muscles are just not there.  What happened to my muscle tissue, did they shrink or did the lack of protein and nutrients cause the muscle cells to die forever?  How can I gain the muscles back.  I just want my normal body back.  I take vitamins and protein drinks.  Twenty years of athletics down the drain in two weeks.  What should I do to recover from this?
