What's wrong with me?

Abou 2 months ago I had begun having stools with blood in them both dark and bright red, both on the out side and in the middle. It happened on and off for about 3 week now that for the most part has stopped, but instaed I've begun to have movements that hav alot of mucus in them and I get diarrha suddenly with out warning no stomach upset or anything I think sometimes that I'm just needing to pass gas but I'm wrong it comes so sudden I can barely control it. Sometimes it is also like water no solid material in it at all, are these problems I'm having conected or separate, and what could they be caused by?

Dear BB Taylor,
Although your symptoms of diarrhea, bleeding and mucus could be due to several different causes, it is necessary to exclude infections and inflammatory bowel disease.  If you have any risk factors for AIDS, you should be HIV tested. Your symptoms could be the result of a parasitic infection associated with a compromised immune system.  Inflammatory bowel disease, diseases of unknown cause that affect the bowel, can also produce symptoms similar to those you describe.  Ulcerative colitis affects only the lining of the colon.  In contrast, Crohn's Disease can affect any part of the bowel from mouth to anus.  After stool cultures have been done, you should have a colonscopy performed.  Visualization of the small intestine by a small bowel barium x-ray will exclude Crohn's disease of the small intestine.
