Will I Die Before Or After They Diagnose?

I've been passed around between 3 general practice doctors due to an elevated liver enzyme situation I've had for 1 1/2 years.  GGT has been 600+.  Have had ultrasound, liver immune system tests, several liver panels worth of blood work.  Last doctor said he thought alcohol was affecting the test.  I totally abstained for a month and the GGT level climbed from 548 to 670.  Other liver enzymes climbed also.  I am 70 pounds overweight, have moderately elevated lipids,  and the ultrasound indicated fatty depositions in the liver.  Can fat/obesity alone account for GGT levels in the 600 range?  I'm asymptomatic otherwise.  47 years old.  Had gall  bladder removed 10 years ago.  No pain.  I'm planning to see a gastro man next week.  Whatever I have must be slow in killing me...since I've already been over a year in the diagnosis.  Thanks for listening.

Dear Sherry,
Marked hepatic steatosus can produce the liver test pattern that you describe but the values are higher than we usually see for fat alone.  It is necessary that chronic viral hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis and autoimmmune liver disease be excluded, if not already done.  You will require a liver biopsy for definitive diagnosis.
