Worried about Symptoms

I am a 21 year old female.  I recently have experienced blood in my stool but only once. There was no pain, a little itching but there was a fairly large amount of blood (about 2 teaspoons). My dad just died from complications from colon cancer that he got 10 years ago and I asked my doctor about it and she said I don't need to get a colonoscopy yet because I'm so young. I don't think it's a tear or hemmorhoids, I've had no other symptoms of pain or constipation and my diet is regular. It was only uncomfortable after I used the bathroom and only then for a short time. Am I really too young to have colon cancer, especially if it's in my family? I'm so worried. Please answer honestly. Also, if it isn't cancer, what else could it be besides anal fissures or colon polyps?

Hemorrhoids, an anal fissure, diverticulitis, or (less likely) cancer or a polyp are all possible.

With the history of colon cancer, I would certainly consider an endoscopy to ensure this isn't the case.  This can be either a flexible sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy.  It is uncommon, but young adults can have colon cancer as well.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician or in conjunction with a gastroenterologist.
