Years of troubles and test and no relief

For years, I have been dealing with episodes of severe chronic cough accompanied by difficulty clearing throat/swallowing(choking-like sensation), gagging, occassional vomiting, and some excess saliva.  It causes difficulties in talking (especially in a louder tone or extended times), eating, and drinking, and excerting myself in exercise.  When I do vomit or cough stuff up it is like a thick filmy sustance mixed with what I was eating.

I have been put on GERD & Allergy medicine and no relief. I have had an Upper GI and all clear and a CT of my sinus cavity, clear as well.  I had a breathing test and it showed nothing. I have had tubes ran up my nose and down my throat and it was all clear.  I have yet to have a test that showed anything.  The only think I have noticed in comparision with other individuals is that my uvula is alot longer.

I really need some good advise because this really alters the way I live my life.  I cannot eat and talk to much because it can bring on the terrible coughing spells that cause me to get nauseated.  I am game to try just about anything because I want to feel better and not be so embarrassed about this situation.

The three major reasons of chronic cough are post-nasal drip, asthma and GERD.

It seems like your physicians have had these options covered.  The upper GI can evaluate for most cases of GERD and a sinus CT would evaluate for chronic sinusitis that can lead to post-nasal drip.

You can consider an evaluation for asthma.  This can be done with pulmonary function tests, or what's known as a methacholine challege test.  These tests can be arranged via a pulmonologist.

If GERD is still a consideration, a 24-hr pH study or upper endoscopy can be considered for a more definitive evaluation.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I'm so sorry for all you are going thru. Have you ever tried chiropractic? Sometimes a spinal misalignment(s) can cause many of the symptoms you describe. If you feel like you have exhausted your medical options then chiropractic might be your answer. I know you have probably heard some negatives re: chiropractic. Try and find a chiropractor thru referrals from family and friends. There are some excellent chiropractors out there who educate as well as heal. Good health to you.

Thank you for your comment.  I have never tried or thought of that but I will definitely look into it.  Thanks again for the new idea.
