abdominal pain and fever

My daughter is a 23 year old student veterinary tech. Has been having abdominal pain, nausea, occasional vomiting and fevers-99 to 101- for approx.8 weeks.Has lost about 12 pounds [her normal weight is 119]. Passed a kidney stone in October. Endoscopy showed Gastritis, colonoscopy showed nodular mucosa of the terminal ileum, probable benign lymphoid hyprplasia. CAT scan of gall bladder negative. GI doctor feels may be infection somewhere in bowels. RX- prevacid, lesinex [antispasmotic] and rifaximin[antibiotic].For hidascan with CCk next week. Is this a form of irritable bowel? Biopsies neg. for Crohn's disease. IN your opinion, are we on the right track? Thank you for your input.

I agree with the endoscopy and colonoscopy - which would exclude many of the major GI disorders.  The CT scan would appropriately evaluate the liver or gallbladder.

If infection continues to a concern, obtaining stool tests to send for culture should be done.

It seems like IBS is being addressed, with the antispasmodic and the Rifaximin.

I would also obtain stool tests to evaluate for malabsorption and blood antibody tests to exclude celiac disease.

These options should be discussed with her personal physician.
