adenomyomatosis

I have been experiencing severe abdominal pain (centre, just under rib cage)for 3 months with brief episodes in the last 3 years too. The pain is definitely related to meal times and is keeping me up at nights. The episodes last 3-4 hours and sometimes more. About 6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with gastritis and I have been taking Losec three times a day. Initially, it brought some intermittant relief. I gradually reduced the dosage and am still suffering from severe pain. An ultrasound showed no stones and the diagnosis was adenomyomatosis. Blood tests of liver function were performed and were normal. I have a family history of gall bladder excision.I am reluctant to do a hida scan since I am breastfeeding.

The Gastro and Surgeon's recommendation is to remove my gall bladder because of the strong family history, severity of painful episodes and the Losec having had no effect. I am nervous to undergo surgery unless I am sure that it will cure my pain.

Does surgery sound like the correct diagnosis for my symptoms?

Don't rush into surgery. Many people who have had their gall bladder removed still have problems!.

Read books in health food stores about natural treatments for gastritis, gall bladder problems, and any other problems. Try out their suggestions (with your doc's OK), and see if you can avoid surgery.

Look for some good holistic health practitioners, like acupuncturists, gentle chiropracters, etc.

Good luck. I hope you feel better soon. Hopefully others will give you advice here.

Sincerely, Concerned lady
