I'M 56 YEARS OLD, FEMALE, IN GOOD HEALTH CONDITION. I.M A VERY ACIVE PERSON. DO MY DAILY WALKS, TAKE MY VITAMINS,PLUS LIPITOR 60MG AND ZOLOF 50MG AS MEDICINES, ONCE A DAY.I HAD A HISTECTOMY AT AGE 50 AND I TAKE EVENING PRIMEROSE AND BLACK COHOSH TO HELP WITH THE COLD SWEATS.MY PROBLEM IS THAT FOR THE PAST YEAR OR SO I CONSTANTILY PASS BLOOD IN MY STOOL, WHICH SHOWS A LOT IN THE WATER. THE FEELING THAT I HAVE IS THAT I'M PASSING GLASS DUE TO THE BIG PAIN THAT COMES WITH THE PASSING OF THE STOOL AND AFTER.I KIND OF HAVE TO STAY STILL FOR A WHILE FOR THE PAIN TO PASS.LAST YEAR I HAD A COLONOSCOPY DONE AND THE RESULTS WHERE CLEAR.THEY FOUND NO HEMORRHOIDS OR ANYTHING ELSE. FOR THE PAST 6-7 MONTHS THIS TERRIBLE ITCHNG COMES ALL THE TIME. IT DRIVES ME CRAZY.I CHECHED MYSELF AND THE BLEEDING IS NOT FROM EXTERNAL BLISTERS.I'VE BEEN USING PREPARATION H SUPOSITORY ONCE A DAY BU IS NOT HELPING.I TOOK MEDICINE FOR PIN WORM, ON MY OWN BUT IT MADE NO DIFFERENCE.I NEVER DID THE TEST FOR PIN WORMS BUT BECAUDE I'VE 4 KIDS I KIND WENT THRU THAT WITH THEM.ALSO I SEE THE LOWER RIGHT SIDE OF MY STOMAG BIGGER THAN THE LEFT SIDE.THERE'S NO PAIN BY TOUCHING IT.PLEASE GIVE YOUR FEELING ABOUT MY SITUATION, BECAUSE I'M STARTING TO GET VERY UPSET WITH THIS SITUATION.

THANKS, SONIA CASTANEDA

Hello - thanks for asking your question.

You note rectal bleeding, rectal pain on bowel movement and a normal colonoscopy.

This history is suspicious for an anal fissure.  A colonoscopy should have picked it up, but if you are continuing to have bleeding and rectal pain, an evaluation by an anorectal specialist (likely a surgeon) is warranted.  If the colonoscopy was completely normal, diseases such as cancer or diverticulosis is unlikely.

An anal fissure can be treated with topical nitrogycerin, botulinum toxin, or oral calcium channel blockers.  Surgical therapy can be considered if the symptoms are refractory to medications.

I would obtain an anorectal specialist to examine the anal area thoroughly for fissure.  A second-opinion repeat endoscopy can be considered if the rectal pain and bleeding continues.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

blood in stool along with severe pain while passing it suggests a fissure, which is a tear in the lining right over the control muscle in the anus. If you had a full colonoscopy because of the blood, and they found nothing internal, it's pretty safe to rule out cancer of the colon. Hemorrhoids don't always show up, even when they are there. It sounds like you need to be examined again; if you have a fissure, it can be treated successfully in several ways. There are certain ointments that may get it to heal. If not, a very simple operation can do the trick.

Has anyone else on Zoloft had these symptoms, you almost
described exactly what is happening to me since
I starting taking it. I'm wondering if I could be
among the 1% who have some gastro side effects from this.
