bloody mucus

my husband started takeing cedax,,,a few days later he started haveing symptoms of gas..and passing maroon colored mucus..no stool just mucus...he stopped taking the cedax and now he is started to pass stool but still has the maroon colered mucus..does this sound like its from the cedax or could it be sumthing totally different...he is from another country and we dont have insurance for him yet here...

This could be something minor or serious, although its probably going to be something minor.  I'm not sure which medication you're talking about.  Is it an antibiotic?  It sounds rather suspicious that he started getting the mucus after taking this medication.  Some medications can cause a type of colitis.  The only way to find out if thats what it is for sure is with a colonoscopy.  Colitis is when the colon becomes ulcerated, and when its caused from medication i believe its from the antibiotics clearing out the good bacteria in your colon.  I believe other medications can cause it as well.  Maroon colored mucus means that the bleeding is coming from higher up in the rectum, so its most likely not hemmorhoids or a fissure.  I would have him see a doctor.
