breast cancer spread to the liver

A friend of mine has breast cancer that has spread to her liver,chemo does not seem to be working and they have given her 3 to 6 months. She is sick all the time from the chemo and the cancer itself.Should she get a second opinion or try alternative medicine or both?After 4 weeks of chemo the tumor is getting bigger not smaller.It is also in her lymph nods.She is 43 with 2 high school age kids and is not ready to give up.They have told her they could try other chemo but it could do more harm then good.Any information about alternative medicine or if the cleveland clinic will do second opinions would be helpful.Thank You.
