chest pain/ esophageal spasm

chest pain/ esophageal spasm

I was in the er a while back with some really bad chest pains. I get them all the time, and I have had holter moniters, numerous ekg's, echo, and stress test. Everything checks out fine. While at the er they put me on a heart moniter and when the Dr left I had a really bad pain. The moniter beeped and you could see a major change in the pattern on the heart moniter. When he came in I told him so he checked it and said that it was just movement and they think I have esophageal spasms. Would that have shown up on the heart moniter? I am just wondering if they can look at those moniters and tell if the change in the pattern is due to cardiac distubances or not?Does the moniter look different if its due to cardiac? I hope someone can help me out here because I get these pains often and I worry that its my heart. They come on all the sudden and it doubles me over. It feels like a sudden cramp, then it lasts about 5 seconds and it's gone.I will do this off and on for a day or two then I won't have anything for a long time.Any info from you all would be greatly appreciated. Sorry so long- I just didn't want to leave anything out. Thanks- Dawn

Hi Dawn,

I've been kinda having the same problem.  I'm a 22 year old female, and I've been getting chest pains for about a year now. I've had numerous ekg's like you and a stress test, which all turned out fine.  I do on occasion think its my heart because I have a family history.  But I would think that they would have found something over the year.  Sometimes my stomach feels weird, and my throat does a weird spasumy thing at the top. I also get a pressure in my chest, which all the doctors tell me is anxiety, but its there all the time.  I'm glad someone finally posted something that's kinda like me...I started to think I was imagining things.

I have the same problem. It started after several months of antibiotics. During an endoscopy they found a fungal infection, and hours after the scope I began to have SEVERE chest pain and could not breathe. I still have it TWO YEARS AFTER the scope!!...It feels exactly like a major heart attack, can't breathe, chest tight as can be, low blood pressure, etc. It is definitely from my esophagus, as my heart has been tested and retested. I now have a vagal nerve problem that causes low BP and a low pulse whenever my chest or stomach is hurting, bloated, or feeling tight. I know the feeling is the most horrific one you ever imagined!!..No one, certainly not some goofy doctor, could understand the pain.....Good luck....Hope this helps.
