colonoscopy

I have been advised that I need a colonoscopy but am unable to tolerate the prep-drinking quarts of those horrible liquids to clean out your system. Have they changed the preps - I want to find a prep they supply in pill form or a liquid that can be taken in a SMALL amount.  If there is something like that, what is it called and will a gastroenterologist okay that type of prep?

I had a colonoscopy a month ago ,my gastro dr. had me use phoso-soda made by fleet. It's only a couple glasses of liquid you have to drink, I did it the night before and then 3 hrs before going for colonoscopy as I was told by dr's office. The down side is you have to only do the clear liquid diet for 24 hrs in advance. This product is availabe at Wal-mart or any drug store

Hi,
I am new to this board. I have had 2 previous colonoscopies, like you, I become very sick from the prep. I am scheduled for 3rd colonoscopy on March 15th. There is a new pill prep, the name is Visicol. It is 40 pills, and they are huge. The day before test, at 2pm take 3 tablets with 8 oz of water every 15 mins until you have taken 20 pills. At 8pm that night you repeat the above steps. My gastro gave me the prescription. If your insurance doesnt cover it, it is an expensive prep, around $55.00. Good Luck.

I hope that your Doc lets you use a "milder" means to clean out. I too had a colonoscopy and was SO ILL the night before and afterwards. I am sure I could never do that kind of prep again. My friend had a very mild prep that she did not mind at all. I can't even think about mine without feeling sick. Let us know how everything goes for you. I hope you get a good report.

I would like to know what permanent damage can be caused and the effects, danger, etc. from a bad colonoscopy procedure.

I had the "intern from hell" perform this procedure and I believe caused some damage.

In my youth, I used to break horses - or maybe I should say broke me.  I can't recall how many bones I have broken.  I've lived a fairly active life and have had a variety of pain inflicted events in my life, but I have to tell you; this colonoscopy ordeal has given me a new perspective to the word PAIN!

At the beginning, I was bending my neck watching the monitor, and was quite impressed, UNTIL "intern from hell" ran into problems trying to go around a corner.  After the normal stomach pushing, flipping me over several times, she made me do assisted situps.  She got the thing hung up, and tore my insides.  Yes, I was sedated, but finally passed out from the PAIN.  Can the scare tissue be cause for concern?
