connection between pancreatic pseudocyst

12 months ago a friend (54) in another country suffered a bout of ruptured oesophigal varicies followed by a pancreatic pseudocyst.  Surgery was performed to block off duodenum.  Traumatic lifethreatening spells in hospital over a three month period dealing with various complications, but finally  he stabilized and was able to resume work and training programme, albeit with  ongoing tummy / digestion issues.  Ongoing meds.  Three weeks ago experienced sharp crushing pains in chest lasting 5 minutes with pulse rate dropping to below 60.  There have now been several attacks like this and recent tests have ruled out cardiac issues.  Further test reveal ALT reading > 10 times normal and 3 other readings well elevated by 3-4 times.  Also, more tummy issues.  Readmitted to hospital.  This is all I know -- and am now out of contact . Please can anyone give me an inkling of what may be happening here?
alcohol consumption had been heavy - but ceased completely 20 years ago .

The ruptured varisces is usually caused by Portal Hyper-Tension. This is due to the blood not being able to flow fast enough through the liver. As far as I can guess . . . your friend has liver disease of some type. Maybe Cirrhosis. Hope this helps. There are liver diseases where the Pancrease is also affected sometimes. Read up on liver diseases and esophegeal varices. My Doc says they never go away. They usually try to control the hypertension with Beta Blockers such as propranalol. Surgically they put a stint in to route some of the blood around the liver and thus reduce the back pressure. Good luck and God bless in your search for answers for your friend.
