ct scan show diverticulitis but have pain and thin stools

hello. end of august (aug 22) i began having sharp upper left pain below ribs. had explosive diareah for one year. had abdomen and pelvis ct scan with iv contrast and had to drink stuff for contrast. showed upper area on colon that was inflamed and there was pericolonic stranding.  dx was probable diverticulitis but no "significant" diverculosis in lower part of colon. my question is: after antibiotics, i no longer have the exploding diareah but i do have soft stools that on thin(  about size and legnth of pinkie). no mucos, normal color.  i have them about 5 times a day. pain is pretty much gone. now its just a vague pain once in a while. my gi doc is sending me for a colonoscopy to check for colitis.  i am worried about colon cancer. he says its not colon cancer.  how could he be so sure? could he be lying to me?? colon cancer does not run in my family. no visible blood in stool. i am 42 year old female. would my ct scan had found cancer if it was cancer? also bood test on aug. 22 was normal.
thankyou mary young

The CT scan is not the ideal test to look for colon cancer.  A colonoscopy would be a more definitive test.  I would not make any conclusions about cancer based on a CT scan.

Being 42 years old and having a change in the caliber of the stool would make a colonoscopy necessary to rule out cancer as well as other polyps.
