GASTROENTEROLOGY / DIGESTIVE DISORDERS EXPERT FORUM
different symptoms?

different symptoms?

Almost since birth I have suffered from malabsorption which in adolescents worsened and then mental problems surfaced: anxiety, depression, insomnia.  I have had GI tests which don't reveal any organic illness so far, but I have also sought out many alternative methods of coping, some of which did help for short periods of time. (craniosacral therapy revealed vagus nerve problems and occpitial joint irregularity, accupuncture, chinese medicine, homeopothy etc.  I feel I am at the end of the rope. I do have food allergies, revealed thru subdermal and challenge tests.  I avoid those foods, which makes it hard to eat out.  And still I get all these symptoms.  Presently I am undergoing another series of GI tests as well as learning self-hypnosis for IBS, which might be my problem as I was once diagnosed with Collitis, a term that is no longer in vogue, I guess.  I am also seeing a therapist who managed my medications, but even with all this, I am still having terrible problems.
What types of treatments are available for this?  I don't know was PPI is, but I see it mentioned in the forum.  I am desparate.

A PPI is a proton-pump inhibitor, and are a class of medications that can treat GERD, ulcers or inflammation of the stomach.

If malabsorption is suspected, the usual testing would include stool tests as well as blood tests looking for celiac disease.

An upper endoscopy should also be done to evaluate the lining of the upper digestive tract.

These options should be discussed with a gastroenterologist, preferably at a major academic medical center.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Get to a doctor, not to alarm you but it sounds like it could be colon cancer.
