elevated alt and ast

elevated alt and ast

Three weeks ago I went to my GP because I thought my ulcer was back. I had some pain like before but also there was a different pain. After meals I would feel a pressure and dull ache in my chest and upper stomach, right beneath my brest bone. Depending on what i ate, sometimes I could actually feel my food going down and it would seem to take a long time. it was very painful. My dr. put me on meds for my ulcer but also ordered blood work. He ordered a liver profile and my alt and ast were slightly elevated. He had me retest 2 weeks later and one had gone up 10 more pts. while the other had decreased somewhat. He said to go back in 7 days for retest which i am doing tomorrow. He keeps asking if i drink or take tylenol. I do neither. Could there be another reason for the abnormal counts? Thank you,  Kara

It could be your Gallbladder too.  Sometimes if you have Gallstones it can cause your levels to elevate also some medicines can cause it.  I have an appointment with a Gastro this week because the same thing happened to me.  I was terrified but, my ulcer medication is working and I feel fine so I am hoping that it was just something small.  Good luck.

I also have had extremely elevated liver enzymes in the thousand range.  I have had to have 3 ERCP's and they found that I had Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction.  This is a muscle that leads from the liver to the small intestine and mine was staying shut all the time.  Therefore, causing my liver enzymes to be elevated.  Now I still have elevated liver enzymes still in the thousand range and so I have to see a liver specialist they think i have something wrong with my liver.  I hope not.  I am going to University Hospitals of Cleveland(Best 10 in the country).  So hopefully they will find some answers.

Good Luck to all of you out there!!
