I also had elevated liver enzymes of AST 98 and ALT 110. I am waiting for results of a hepatitis panel.  I am not sure what this is caused by but it has been mentioned that it may be due to excessive tylenol usage.  Any insight on this

i have already had the hepatitis panel and everything was negative for hep b and c. however, it revealed that i had been exposed to hep a so it was positive for a. i have a lot of pain and my doctor doesnt think it is liver related but who knows.

Has the doctor looked for fatty infiltration of the liver?  Are you overweight?  What is your cholesterol number?

i have been told by another doctor that a ct scan i had done showed a mild infiltration of fatty tissue and that i could have mild fatty liver. however, i am not overweight and my cholesterol is great. is fatty liver treatable or can it be maintained.

the only treatment for fatty liver is to go on a low fat diet.  If you have elevated liver enzymes that means your liver is inflamed.  You have probably had fatty infiltration of the liver for a long time and didn't know it.  Do some research on a new disease called Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) or ask your doctor about it.  This is a fairly new thing and a lot of doctors are not up to speed on it yet.  There was an article in the New England Journal of Medicine in April 2002 on Fatty Infiltration of the Liver.  Also look at a website called www.liverdisease.com.

Tylenol and alcohol can definitely aggravate the liver and cause alt and ast to be elevated.  Also prescription and over the counter drugs.
