Dear Jennifer,
Eosinophilic esophagitis can be idiopathic (not due to any identifiable cause), or secondary to severe esophageal reflux, allergies, parasitic infection and drug-allergy.  Symptoms can include chest pain, and difficulty swallowing.  If an underlying cause is not identified, then corticosteroids can be used to control symptoms.
