My biopsy says minimal fibrosis and slight imflammation
of my portal tract. My doctor seems to think this is no
big deal as I was a heavy drinker and have stopped for
9 months. I want him to run the test ERCP to check for
Scherosing Cholangitis. Is this test needed. Are my
biopsy signs a possible sign of Scherosing Cholangitis
or is my signs more than likely just from drinking.

I would need to see a more complete picture to make the diagnosis of sclerosing cholangitis.

Other diganostic methods can include an ultrasound - which can suggest abnormal bile ducts.  As MRCPs are improving in technology, this can be another option instead of an ERCP.

That being said, the ERCP still is the best test if the diagnosis is still in question.

Other causes of fibrosis can be considered - including alcohol.  The liver function tests may be helpful in the diagnosis.

You can discuss these options with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
