fatty liver

fatty liver

My husband, 31 yr old white male, has been diagonoised with a "fatty liver".  He was told that this is usually something common in people who consume alot of alcohol. This catcher is that he doesnt drink, ever.  He was overweight and lost 58 pounds  in about 4 months (over 1 1/2 yrs ago).  He is still a little overweight.  We are very concerned about this and have an appointment with a specialist next week.  Is this reversible?  Thank you for your help.

This is not reversible.  I have been diagnosed with NASH which is a "fatty liver".  It is a build-up of fatty tissues inside the liver.  The only way to positively diagnose someone with NASH is to have a biopsy done.

I wish your husband luck.  I don't drink much anymore either.  I have to get blood work done every 6 months to monitor my counts.  Other than that there is nothing I can do for it.

Fatty liver can usually be controlled with medication nad proper eating.  My Father-In-Law was diagnosed 30 years ago and he is still fine.  He can't take certain medications because of there effect on the liver and he has to watch his diet but he lives anormal life.  Hope this helps.
