frequent belching.....

frequent belching.....

I was taking nsaids because i was sore a lot from working out. around jan 05 i started noticing that right after i would eat I would feel tremendously full and bloated. this was also accompanied by nause no vomiting... then i started to feel burning pain mostly at night.. so i started taking prilosec... and stopped any nsaids altogether.. I started to feel better almost immediately.. wouldnt feel bloated but i started to have frequent belching especially on an empty stomach.. belching at will  Ive been taking prilosec for about 6 weeks now and im still getting frequent belching. can prilosec be causing the frequent belching because my stomach does not have any acid in it? what is going on? does it take that long for gastritis to heal itself.. should i continue with the prilosec??  I would get a upper scope but the treatment for gastritis is  prilosec anyway isnt it? plus antibiotics if i have h pylori..   Looking forward to hearing what you think

It is unlikely that the Prilosec is causing the belching.  NSAID use associated with an ulcer or inflammation (gastritis) can certainly be possible.

An upper GI series or upper endoscopy should be considered for further evaluation.  I would also consider blood tests looking for the bacteria H Pylori - which is associated with ulcers or inflammation.

If positive, you would need duel antibiotic therapy in addition to the Prilosec to eradicate the bacteria.

Other options would include a 24-hr pH study for a more definitive test for GERD.

You can discuss these options with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
