gallbladder

In January, I had the test done, that showed no gallstones, but that my gallbladder wasn't pumping the material out like it should.  They sent me to a surgeon, and he recommended to wait until the pain became untolerable.  My concern is, if this is not working properly, then can this material that remains set up an infection?  I can bend over to tie my shoes and literally feel my gallbladder getting pinched between my ribs and the top of my jeans.  I can stand straight up and feel a knot there too.  I'm worried and wonder what your opinion is.

Dear Kathy,
Your posting does not describe the pain that you suffer.  In this forum we have received emails from many people describing the persistence of symptoms after gall bladder surgery.  Before you consent to surgery, it is necessary that you have a high degree of confidence that having your gall bladder removed will improve your symptoms.  The symptom that you describe of bending over and feeling your gall bladder pinched between the ribs is UNLIKELY to be due to the gall bladder not functioning correctly.
Patients with gall bladder problems complain of pain under the right ribs that occurs after eating.  The pain gradually increases over 45-60 min and then subsides.  This condition, called biliary colic, is the first sign of gall bladder problems.  If you ignore this symptom you may later develop cholecystitis.  I would not expect problems of cholecystitis or infected bile (cholangitis) because you do not have gall stones.
