hemorrhoids or tumor?

  : I felt a lump in my anus that felt different than the run of the mill hemorrhoid.  Doctor looked up there and said it felt like a thrombosis hemorrhoid (or something like that).  I'm afraid it is a tumor.  How can I be sure?  It hurts when I have a hard stool, sometimes for an hour or 2 after I go.  Also bleeds when I have a hard stool, bright red blood onto the toilet paper.  Please help.
  
  If doctor looked at it you should feel very confident.  Tumors do not at all resemble hemorrhoids.  Also pain after passing hard stool is direct symptom of hemorrhoids...not cancer.  You do not mention your age, but if colon or rectal cancer is a concern (usually only in those over 40), you may ask your phisycian to begin tests such as the flexible sigmoidoscopy.  This test is a relatively painless out-patient procedure and diagnoses up to 65% of all colon / rectal cancers.  P.S. i am not a doctor but went through a similar scare.  I think you're in the clear on this one...best of luck!

It would be very difficult to diagnose your lesion without looking at it. On the other hand, as Doug mentioned, hemorrhoids are
more common in younger patients than cancerous lesions. If you are still concerned even after your physician has looked at the
area, you might want to seek an evaluation by a colorectal surgeon.
