hepititis C and heartburn, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting

My husband has Hepititis (hepatitis) C, his liver is ok by biopsies and
blood tests, he has recently expirenced daily nausea, vomiting,
gas belching with bad taste in his mouth, pain below belly
button and slightly above diaphram. Could this be related to
the hep. C or would it more likely be GERD due to increased
weight and apitite. He currently takes depakote, paxil,
resparidol, and gemfribrozil for bi polar and high triglycerides
    Thank you,
   Cathy
Dear Cathy,
It would be very unlikely that your husband's symptoms are secondary to hepatitis C viral infection. The symptoms you describe are consistent with gastroesophageal reflux disease. Some of the medications that he is taking may decrease lower esophageal sphincter (LES) pressure and precipitate episodes of reflux. He may benefit from anti-reflux measures and medical treatment for GERD. I hope you find this information helpful.
