high grade dysplasia

with a pathology report of high grade dysplasia in the stomach, what possible treatments and tests should be done.  i know they have to check for cancer, since this is a marker for that. we have an appointment for july 22, 2008 at shands hospital in gainesville fl and i am worried that we should not wait that long as this is an aggressive kind of dysplasia. my daughter is only 38 and has 3 children and she is worried about this taking too long. what are your recommendations as to tests. the one she is doing on july 22 is a endiscopy with ultrasound. sorry if i don't spell these terms right.  and if anyone has had this condition i would like their feedback as well. thank you janis

There is no clear direction for high-grade dysplasia.  The location and severity of the dysplasia all play a role in the decision.

Treatment options can involve endoscopic ablative therapy, mucosal resection or intensive monitoring.  

If the dysplasia involves the esophagus (Barrett's esophagus), removing the esophagus also is an option.

At the very minimum, there needs to be close surveillance as well as a GI referral.  Another opinion can be sought at a major academic medical center.
