lesion on liver

lesion on liver

I was diagnosed with a bad gallblader (gallbladder) which was removed but I did not have stones.  After the surgery I continued to have pain in my right chest area under my right rib cage that penetrated to my back.  They had a CT scan done which they said showed a cyst on my liver and then had a MRI done to take a better look.  They now tell me I have a liver lesion.  What should I be asking my doctor? Should I be concerned.  I am having a lot of pain especially when I exsert myself in any way, I am unable to sleep because of the pain.  Is there anything I can take to help this? I will be following up with my DR. in a couple days?
Thanks

Hello - thanks for asking your question.

Without examining you or your studies, it is impossible to say what is going on.

As surgeon has mentioned below, a liver lesion is a very general term that can be any of the possibilities he has mentioned.

The official MRI report should contain the radiologist's impressions on what specifically it could be (i.e. cyst vs tumor etc).

To obtain a definitive diagnosis, some kind of liver biopsy of the lesion should be considered and discusses with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

"lesion" is a very general term for anything that's not absolutely normal. A zit on your face is a skin lesion. A liver lesion could be anything from a cyst (which is common and totally harmless), to a scar, to a tumor of which the most common are harmless also (such as what's called a hemangioma.) Not only that, but nearly any liver lesion, even one that's cancer, wouldn't  cause pain like you describe. Hopefully, you'll get more info when you see your doc.

I am a nurse with no symptoms of any disease. I had a non-contrast CT done to assess a hernia and it came back with "spots" on my liver. Of course this has totally freaked me out. I have an appt. for a contrast CT for a diagnosis. All my liver enzymes are normal and I have NO health problems except the hernia. Does anyone have any similar experience?
I know it could be benign hemangiomas but I am worried it could be something worse.Any input would be greatly appreciated (I do not drink or smoke).

I have been diagnosed as harbouring two liver lesions: one the size of a golf ball and one smaller in size. I have Stage two of four of cirrhosis, pancreatitis and chronic kidney failure ( no dialysis ) and Hep C. What should be my next step medically, and what are the average chances of developing or having cancer in the liver?
