liver enzymes

Doc,
Here are my new results 3 weeks after lowering my purinethol dose.

T Bilirubin 2.1 (high)
Indirect Bilirubin 1.8 (high)
ALT 56 (Normal)
AST 19 (Normal)
Alk Phos 46 (Normal)
Albumin 4.0 (Normal)

Should my bilirubin still be high?  Everything else is back to normal.  Doctor insists I have Gilbert's syndrome because I also have a low rbc.  He says sometimes the 2 can coexist.  Hep A, B, and C were all non reactive and ultra sound were normal.  In your honest opinion is this high bilirubin going to cause my liver damage.  I have a little yellow tinge to my eyes but no one can notice this, but me.  Go figure.  Should I demad a ultrasound?

If the ultrasound and hepatitis tests are negative - Gilbert's syndrome is certainly a possibility.

It is also comforting that the rest of the liver enzymes are normal.

At this time, I probably wouldn't recommend any further testing.  Periodic checking of the liver function tests should be done to ensure the bilirubin levels do not rise further.

This should be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Hello,I also have very high bilirubin in my blood. My doctor suspects Gilbert's syndrome,so we did more bloodwork, after an 18hr fasting. (this makes the results more accurate) I see him tomorrow to get the lowdown.I hope it's nothing more serious, but i guess it is what it is. I just want to know once and for all and start treating it.I get extreme pains in my upper right side and is always tender. I see abit yellow as well, of course no one else does. Good luck to you, and I would demand a liver biopsy...you are you're own best advocate, take care of yourself!

Here are my LFT results latest.
LFT results 09/13/2005
result normal range
Protein 8.1 g/dL 6.0-8.0 High
Albumin 5.2 gm/dL 3.5-5.2
Globulin 2.9 g/dL 2.2-3.7
AG Ratio 1.8 1.1-2.2
ALK Phos 78 IU/L 34-122
ALT(SGPT) 97 u/L 3-57 High
AST(SGOT) 70 u/L 10-42 High
Bilirubin Total 1.8 mg/dL 0.2-1.3 High

Conju bili 0 mg/dL 0-0.3
Unconj bili 1.7 mg/dL 0.1-1.1 High
Delta 0 mg/dL 0.0-0.4

I have been known to have an elavated enzyme levels -bilirubin,alt and AST around the values indicated above and since 2002 it has been moving around a range and once it became normal.LFT was first ordered when I complained of gastric stomach which I have been having since 1998.Not  drinker.
an Ultrasound scan said "Fatty Liver".
Hep B and C negative.Otherwise normal hunger weight etc.
Only problem I have is GAS GAS GAS in stomach and uncomfortable pain sometimes radiates to right and left of rib cage.
I believe,Gilbert syndrome only results in increased bilirubin and not AST or ALT.
