My doctor said fibrosis will not turn into cirrosis (cirrhosis) if I stay
away from alchol. Is this true. I have a 0/1 rate of fibrosis.
If not why would he tell me this. He seems sure my liver
with last for years, but I still have get different opions.

That is likely a true statement.  Fibrosis can be reversible if the inciting cause is stopped.  If alcohol is indeed the cause of the liver damage, stopping it would stop the progression to cirrhosis.

Of course, if there is something else going on (i.e. hepatitis), then that would have to be treated as well.
