mucus and blood

  i have recently started noticing mucas and blood in my stools. it is sort of like
  i am constipated, but not really. when i do have a BM, it is loose and clotty. this is so gross.
  i have been experiencing cramping in my lower abdominal area as well? what does this sound like?
  any suggestions? please and thank you. :)

Mucus and bloody, loose stools warrant further investigation to rule out infectious colitis, inflammatory bowel disease or other conditions. I would recommend that you have a gastroenterological evaluation to determine the source of your symptoms. You may benefit from a flexible sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy (tests where a tube is introduced through the rectum and advanced up into the colon)to help diagnose the cause of your symptoms.
