nissan wrap

nissan wrap

when my daughter was born in 1991 the muscle at the bottom of her esophagus did not properly open and close so she would stop breathing - regularly. luckly this was caught before we left the hospital and she underwent a nissan wrap at ll days old.  the surgery was completey successful and she has never had any problems breathing since.  she is 12 now and seems to have a persistent weight problem. she is approximately 5 2 and weighs 150 lbs.  I was wondering if the nissan wrap has any impact on weight loss or makes it more difficult to lose weight as one gets older.  it could just be that she has a big appetite, however i see her school friends eat similarly and not gain weight. just curious.

Our surgical colleague would have more experience than I would regarding fundoplication and its complications.  He has commented on this below.

I am not aware of a fundoplication having an adverse effect on weight loss as one grows older.

if anything, the opposite would be true: if the wrap is too tight, people have trouble swallowing, and would regurgitate and loose weight. Weight gain would not be attributed to any issues with the wrap. In the final analysis, weight gain occurs when the calories taken in by eating are more than the body burns up.
