pain in lower right side of abdomen

My wife has recently found out that we are expecting our first
baby.  The doctor prescribed prenatal vitamins with iron.  My wife has
always had a problem with constipation, even when she eats healthy.
Once, she did not go to the bathroom for 15 days.  Recently she has been
severely constipated, unable to have a bowl movement without the use
of glycirin suppositories.  For more than a year, (probably several)
when she would occasionally get constipated, she would get a sharp pinching
pain near where her ovaries might be.  Once she went to the bathroom,
the pain would last a day then go away.  The pinching pain lasts only
a few seconds then subsides, but a lower grade pressure is still there.
Pushing on the area can locate the area of pain.  She felt the pinching pain
when she urinated the other night.  Now we are worried.

Dear Rick,
I am uncertain as to the cause for your wife's symptoms but it is exceedingly unlikely that this is a manifestation of colitis or C. difficle infection.  You can discuss with the docotor all the posible causes for abdominal pain ina pregnant woman.  I would focus on treating the constipation.  Fiber is the first therapy.  If this does not work, ask your obstetrician about the use of laxatives such as Lactulose.  Finally, intermittent use of small amounts of Golytely may be helpful in moving the bowels.
This informationis presented for educatioanl purposes only.  Always ask specific questions to your personal physician.
