please help....

So, my mum is going through menapause. But she has been having this problem for years now...It has gotten alot worse lately. Please advise.

Her current symptoms:

She builds up a lot of acid, after that she starts burping alot, and then after awhile starts to vomit and have diarrhea at the same time. She has been on a very simple diet for the past 6 months and has not eaten anything spicy, etc because when she does, these symptoms start getting out of hand. She went in for a colonoscpy a few months back, and it came out fine. The doctor did say she has IBS but has alot of unusual spasms in her intestines. What does this mean? What supplements can she take? How can she go back to eating normally?  and since she's on her menapause stage, is this a factor ? She is under alot of stress, and I believe that some of her symptoms are due to that.

I agree with the colonoscopy.

I would consider an upper endoscopy at this point, which can rule out many of the major upper GI disorders like GERD, an ulcer or inflammation.

I am not aware of supplements that are shown in consensus studies that can help.  

If celiac disease is a concern, appropriate blood antibody testing should be considered.

Imaging the abdomen with an ultrasound or CT scan should be considered as well.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Do you think she might have celiac disease? She was diagnosed with anemia and has missed her period twice this month. If so, what kind of test can she take for it?

Hi Dr. Kevin,

She has done an upper endoscopy and that came out fine as well. What else could she do? She has not been on a proper diet and it's stressing her out more than anything...

I had diarrhea and nausea chronically.  Test after test came back negative.
