possible cause

In researching possible effects of asbestos exposure, many information sources cite problems not only of the lungs and their linings but also references to possible esophagus and stomach problems resulting from this exposure.  I am trying to establish if their are any possible links to heavy asbestos exposure and Barrett's Esophagus.  My father was exposed in the navy during WW II and has lung and extreme breathing difficulties.  He also has been diagnosed with Barretts and I was wondering if their could be a link since the causes of this problem are not real clear.
